[THANK YOU ALEX, YOU ARE A GOOD MAN. PARTIES IN THE RAIN.]
Definitely cultural differences, I think.
Where I'm from, the birthday celebrant would give gifts to their loved ones. As a way to show their appreciation for them. So much as I'm touched by the offer, I'll be doign the cooking by myself. The treats are supposed to be a surprise after all!

I was thinking to do something to help children. Find a place for them to have fun, you know?
Since I got to know them during the rainy weather, I've been thinking more and more about how good it'll be for them if they had somewhere to play and to have fun without fear of getting in trouble because of the possible noise they'll make.

[ the reply is even better than what she could have hoped.
it takes a minute to answer a reply, so ecstatic that she's making a lot of mistakes in her typing and she needs to correct them all before sending out her message. ]
We could use the other rooms for the kids? Really?
I have to admit that I'm at a loss of words at this.

I will and thank you! I admit, I am a little nervous. Some of the gifts will have to be a bit smaller than they should be thanks to how limited supplies are.
Not that I'm complaining, of course! Just something I didn't think I'll be doing again until I started making my list.
[ she had gotten so used to the abundant supplies of the lornful light that needing to measure her supplies and rations again is a bit of a shock. ]

Wait a minute.
Are you using a smiley?
[ she blinks just in case it's, somehow, a trick of the light but no. he is. he really is using a smiley. (and a smiley she knows no less.)
and oh goodness gracious that's too. precious. absolutely precious. her poor heart oh noooo.
ahem.
focus- ] Any and all help with taking care of the kids is always welcomed! A lot of them need help in learning how to play in the first place.

I suppose it is! I just know them as smileys from where I am but that's a cute name for it. I think I'll try it out in the future.
That's fine too. Is there something you'd like to help with in particular? I'm open to anything right now since this would be my first attempt to do such a thing, really. [ needing to organise and corral her shipmates in getting their yearly boosters doesn't count, in her opinion. for one thing she looks forward to doing this. ]

[ alex is such a good friend, believing in lore. we can only hope it does not backfire too badly come march... ] I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that's the case. Everyone in town, before we came along, got by after all.
I remember bread being handed out by some of the townsfolk here in the welcoming party. Do you think they'll find me creepy if I asked how they got their supplies?
