Where I'm from, drones are, essentially, robots. Very simple robots. They usually have a distinct task or set of skills for a job.

their visor blinks at a steady light to him, trying to send in morse code a thank you for his wanting to help them. not every day you meet others willing to be kind to them like owner-leeds. ]
[ The drone continues to show emotion, and it strikes him as quaint. Perhaps the Allagan empire had similar creations in their golden age, but all that remains on their fabled floating continent were monsters lacking the ability of conscious thought.
Perhaps, Lorem's world would not fall to that kind of depravity over time. He can hope.
